Islamic Lessons for Christians

Islamic Lessons for Christians (Oneworld Publications, 2026) is the latest book by Gabriel Said Reynolds, Crowley Professor of Islamic Studies and Theology at the University of Notre Dame.

What, if anything, can Christians learn from Islam? Against two opposing views, that Islam is a separate civilisation irreconcilably opposed to Christianity, or that it is merely a failed version of it, Reynolds argues for a new way forward in interfaith dialogue: for Christians to appreciate Islam precisely for its differences.

In a thoughtful examination of both Islamic belief and Muslim practice, illuminating the beauty of Allah, the sharia and the ummah, he shows how some Muslim practices can remind Christians of elements of their own tradition, rectifying misconceptions. He tells vivid stories of saints, popes and emperors who encountered Muslims as opponents, and as friends.

Gabriel Said Reynolds is also the author of The Qur’an and the Bible (Yale University Press, 2018) and Allah: God in the Qur’an (Yale University Press, 2020).

Gabriel Said Reynolds est notamment l’auteur de The Qur’an and the Bible (Yale University Press, 2018) et d’Allah: God in the Qur’an (Yale University Press, 2020).
