Erwin Tanner
A Swiss jurist and theologian, Erwin Tanner-Tiziani holds a doctorate in both civil and canon law. He served for about a decade as Secretary-General of the Swiss Bishops’ Conference — the first layperson to hold this office — after having been secretary of its Commission for Dialogue with Muslims. From 2022 to the end of 2024 he directed Missio Switzerland (Pontifical Mission Societies). A specialist in the relationship between secular and religious law, he has close knowledge of the political and social dimensions of religion and took part in the UCLy research group on authority and regulation in Islam.
