Antonio Angelucci
Born in 1972 in Italy, Antonio Angelucci is Associate Professor of Law and Religion at the University of Insubria (Como and Varese), where he directs the interuniversity FIDR Centre (International Interuniversity Forum on Democracy and Religions) and the Master’s programme for Intercultural Community Educators, and sits on the university’s Quality Assurance Board.
A specialist in religious freedom and the law of religions, and an expert on the MENA region (Middle East and North Africa), his research focuses on Islam in Italy and Europe, the legal status of Muslim organisations and Christian-Muslim dialogue. He is the author of L’Islam in Italia (Giappichelli, 2018) and co-edited Chiesa e Islam in Italia and Islam e integrazione in Italia. A member of the Pluriel network, he took part in the working group on the IHRA (International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance) definition of antisemitism, contributing to Italy’s national strategy against antisemitism.
He teaches canon law and the comparative law of religions, religions and rights in multicultural society, and community and family mediation; he is also professor of Islamic, Hindu and Buddhist law at the University of Italian Switzerland (USI, Lugano) and teaches European ecclesiastical law at the University of Eastern Piedmont (Novara). He is a member of the scientific council of the REDESM centre (Religion, Law and Economics in the Mediterranean Area) and of the national doctorate in Peace Studies (La Sapienza University, Rome).
A lawyer since 2004, he holds a law degree from the University of Pavia (2001), a PhD in philosophy of law (2013) and a master’s degree in canon law and comparative ecclesiastical law (2017).
