Paolo Gonzaga
Born in 1970 in Italy, Paolo Gonzaga teaches Arabic language and translation at the university institute for the training of linguistic mediators SSML PM Loira – Umanitaria, in Milan. A graduate in Arabic language and literature from Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, he previously taught at several academic and cultural institutions, including the master’s programme of the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan and the Cardinal Giovanni Colombo Foundation.
A translator from Arabic into Italian, he has notably translated the Tafsir al-Jalalayn, one of the major Quranic commentaries (second half of the 15th century), and edited and translated from English a series of books on the evolution of Islamic thought. His research focuses on political Islam and jihadist Salafism.
He is the author of Islam e democrazia. I Fratelli Musulmani in Egitto (2011) and Islam in movimento. Tra riformismo e jihadismo (Ananke Edizioni, 2018), and has written for the journals Annali di Scienze Religiose (2020, 2022) and Arabesque. Semestrale di letteratura e arti dal mondo arabo (2021, 2022).
