God Is with Us: How Islam and Judaism Justify Violence

Long before October 7, 2023—and even more so since—certain politicized strands of Judaism and Islam have been creating conditions that legitimize, escalate, and sacralize violence in God’s name.

In this courageous book, the author dares to confront the theological-political rhetoric articulated on both sides—Palestinian and Israeli—that constructs narratives of death. To justify them, violence and counterviolence are recast as “the right to resist” or “the right to self-defense.”

However, this contemporary history cannot overlook the lessons of the longue durée, nor the pacifist—or otherwise—positions adopted by some Muslim and Jewish community organizations in France, home to Europe’s largest Muslim and Jewish populations.
