Theme “Islam and Otherness”

True acceptance of otherness in a globalized and pluralistic world allows us to measure the capacity of religious, philosophical or political thought to fit in and assume the contemporary societal dynamics inherent to globalization (Taylor). This acceptance is not devoid of resistance that stem from the rise of entrenched identity expressions founded in particularly on a vision of equality that is based on the “similar” which assumes a historical-ethnic (Rosanvallon) [1] or religious identity.

The congress ‘Islam and Otherness’ proposes to reflect on how Islam fits into this societal movement beyond identity resistance.

Three axes will allow us to approach the reality of otherness in Islam in terms of resources: geopolitical axis, dialogue axis and citizenship axis (muwatana).

Practical information

CONGRESS VENUE

On May 23, 24, 25, the congress will take place at Saint Joseph University of Beirut, Campus de l’innovation et du sport (Damascus Road, facing the French Embassy).

On May 26, morning, the congress will take place at La Sagesse University.

The cultural visits will take place in Beirut and north of Beirut / north Lebanon. (More info coming about the visits)

ACCOMODATION

The accomodation included in the pack ‘Congress + Accomodation’ (see registration page) can take place in one of the 3 following hotels :

ENTRY TO LEBANON

Please enquire about the conditions of entry to Lebanon according to your nationality.

Please note the following important points:
-Entry to Lebanon is prohibited for passport holders with Israeli stamps or visas.
-A passport valid for 6 months beyond the intended period of stay and with two blank pages is required.
