Muslim students at school

Original title: Studenti musulmani a scuola

What questions do children and young people, especially the ‘second generation’, who profess the Islamic religion pose to Italian schools? How can we talk about Islam, combat religious illiteracy, online and offline Islamophobia and prevent forms of radicalisation? Which didactic choices underline the points of contact and the historical-religious links between the West and the Arab-Islamic civilisation? And what form do festivals, teaching and religious symbols take when faced with pluralism in schools?

This book, promoted by the Research Centre on Intercultural Relations of the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan, aims to answer these questions. It stems from the PriMED project – Prevention and Interaction in the Trans-Mediterranean Space, which involved 22 universities (Italian and foreign) and was supported by the Ministry of Education, Universities and Research. It is a large network of scientific and cultural cooperation that has brought together students, researchers and teachers from Italy and the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) countries with the aim of activating a widespread training programme on integration policies and the fight against radicalisation, which has been removed from an exclusively security-oriented vision and returned to a more in-depth analysis. Intercultural dialogue, exchange, training and integration are the key words of this journey through the classrooms of a school that is changing, but does not want to give up educating citizens.

Titre original : “Studenti musulmani a scuola”

“Studenti musulmani a scuola”
